How-To: Enter the expression for the limit of a sequence (n towards infinity) - OpenOffice.org Math
- This screencast demonstrates the way to enter an expression showing the "limit of a sequence." To do this, first click on the "math commands window" here.
- Now, once the cursor appears, type in the word "lim" for "limit."
- Next, enter the scope of the limit. Start by pressing space and typing in "from."
- Then, press space again and type in "n" to represent one number in the sequence.
- Afterwards, establish the direction of the limit. Press space and type in the word "toward."
- Next, press space again and type in the word "infinity" to display the "infinity" symbol. This should represent all other numbers in the sequence to infinity.
- Now, we shall enter the expression that represents the whole sequence. In this example we shall use the variable "X."
- Type in "X sub n" enclosed in "braces" or "curly brackets" like this.
- Good! As you can see, "X" represents the entire sequence, while the variable "n" represents one number in that sequence.
- The word "sub" between them specifies that the next text is to be shown as a "subscript." In this case the variable "n" is shown as thus, to fit its function.
- Please remember that you can replace the variables used here with your own values.
- Great! As you can see we have entered an expression of the limit of a sequence. Congratulations!
