How-To: Upgrade OpenOffice.org to release version 2.3 on windows
  1. To upgrade OpenOffice to the release version 2.3, first you must already have downloaded the installation file in the OpenOffice.org website. It should be typically named like this.
  2. Start the upgrade process by double-clicking on the file.
  3. The installation process should start by informing you that some files must be unpacked and copied to your computer. Just click on "Next" to continue.
  4. You will first be prompted to choose the folder where the files needed for the installation will be unpacked. The default location is the desktop. You can change it by clicking on the browse button above. Otherwise just click on unpack.
  5. Now, wait for the files to unpack.
  6. Once the unpacking is finished, the installation wizard should start. Just click next to continue.
  7. The license agreement for OpenOffice.org should now appear. Read the license carefully so that you will know the rights and restrictions you have when using OpenOffice.
  8. To continue with the installation, you must accept the terms of the license agreement. Click on that option here.
  9. Afterwards, click on "Next."
  10. Next, you will be asked for some information about yourself. First, type in the User Name you want in this field here.
  11. Then, type in the name of your organization here. (If applicable)
  12. Next, since you are using Windows, you can choose to install the application for all users, or just for yourself. Click on the option you want.
  13. Afterwards, click on "Next."
  14. Next, you will be asked to choose the setup type. To upgrade everything choose the "Complete" option. Otherwise, click on the custom option to choose the features you want to install.
  15. Once you're done, click on "Next."
  16. If you chose the custom setup, you should be taken to this list so that you can choose the modules that you would like to include in the installation. Just select the options you want.
  17. You can also change the installation folder by clicking here on the "change" button.
  18. On the window that opens, select the destination folder where the upgraded openoffice should be installed in, then click on "OK."
  19. Once you're done choosing the modules and destination folder, click on "Next."
  20. Afterwards, you will be asked if you want to set OpenOffice to be the default application that opens the Microsoft Office files listed here.
  21. Just click on the appropriate checkboxes if you want OpenOffice to open word documents, excel spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations automatically.
  22. Once you're finished choosing, click here on "Next" to start the installation.
  23. Now, just wait for the installation to finish.
  24. Great! The installation was a success. You have upgraded OpenOffice to version 2.3. Click on "finish" to close the wizard.
