How-To: Upgrade OpenOffice.org to release version 2.2 on windows
- To upgrade OpenOffice.org to version 2.2, first you must download the installation file from the OpenOffice.org website. The file should be typically named like this.
- Upgrading is good to practice once in a while since it gives you access to new features. As an example, please note that an "OXT" file like this doesn't have its own icon. We'll check what happens to it after we upgrade OpenOffice.
- Now, to start upgrading, navigate to the file you downloaded and double-click on it to start the installation process.
- Good! The installation process should start by informing you that some files must be unpacked and copied to your computer. Just click on "Next" to continue.
- You will be prompted to choose the folder where the files needed for the installation will be unpacked. The default is the desktop. If you want to change this, click here on the browse button and choose another location.
- Otherwise, click here on "Unpack."
- Now, wait for the files to unpack.
- Once the unpacking is finished, the installation wizard should start. Just click next to continue.
- The license agreement for OpenOffice.org should now appear. Read the license carefully so that you will know the rights and restrictions you have when using OpenOffice.
- To continue with the installation, you must accept the terms of the license agreement. Click on that option here.
- Afterwards, click on "Next."
- Next, you will be asked for some information about yourself. First, type in the User Name you want in this field here.
- Then, type in the name of your organization here. (If applicable)
- Next, since you are using Windows, you can choose to install the application for all users, or just for yourself. Click on the option you want.
- Afterwards, click on "Next."
- Next, you will be asked to choose the setup type. To upgrade everything choose the "Complete" option. Otherwise, click on the custom option to choose the features you want to install. Once you're done, click on "Next."
- If you chose the custom setup, you should be taken to this list so that you can choose the modules that you would like to include in the installation.
- You can also change the installation folder by clicking here on the "change" button.
- On the window that opens, select the destination folder where the upgraded openoffice should be installed in, then click on "OK."
- Once you're done choosing the modules and destination folder, click on "Next."
- Afterwards, you will be asked if you want to set OpenOffice to be the default application that opens the Microsoft Office files listed here.
- Just click on the appropriate checkboxes if you want OpenOffice to open word documents, excel spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations automatically.
- Once, you're done choosing click on "Next."
- Great! After all that input, we are ready to install OpenOffice version 2.2. Just click here on install.
- Now, just wait for the installation process to complete.
- Great! The installation of OpenOffice.org version 2.2 has been completed! Just click on "finish" to exit the installation wizard.
- Now, notice that the file with an "OXT" extension has gained its own icon and can now be used. These is just one of the new features available for the 2.2 version of OpenOffice. Congratulations!
