How-To: Overview of graphic style options - OpenOffice.org
- This screencast demonstrates the options available when modifying or creating a graphics style.
- Please remember that you need to have the "Styles and Formatting" window open to access the options for a style. You can do this quickly by pressing "F11" on the keyboard.
- Now to access the options for the style, first click on the "Graphics Style" button here to filter the list.
- Next, look for the style you want to modify and right click over it.
- On the menu that opens, click on the option "Modify..."
- The options window for the graphic style should open.
- The first tab in the window is the organizer tab. It is here where you can name or modify the name of a style.
- You can also choose the styles that link with the current style by clicking on this down arrow and choosing the one you want.
- Next, we'll take a look at the "Line" options by clicking on this tab.
- This tab lets you adjust the various line and arrow properties for the graphic styles if they are applicable.
- In this area you can adjust the line style, color, width and transparency.
- Just click on these down arrows to view the drop down menus and choose the options you want.
- If there are up and down arrow buttons, clicking on them should increase or decrease the value of the property indicated.
- Now, in this area you can adjust the settings for the arrow's style, it's width, position and corner style.
- Just click on the respective drop down menus, checkboxes and adjustment buttons to change their settings.
- Next, we'll look at the Area tab.
- In this tab you can change the filler for the graphic style. This decides what you see within the shape of the graphic.
- Just click on this down arrow to view the kinds of fillers that you can use. The list below should display all the options available for each kind of filler.
- Next, we go to the shadowing options.
- This tab enables/disables the presence of a shadow for the graphic style. When it is enabled, it is here where you can adjust a shadow's position, distance, color and transparency.
- Now, we go to the transparency tab.
- This tab enables/disables the transparency of the graphic style. If enabled you can also adjust the magnitude of the transparency as well as the various settings when you set the transparency at a gradient.
- Next, on to Font options.
- In this tab, you can change the font style, typeface, font size and language of the text in the graphic style.
- Next, on to Font Effects.
- This tab lets you add font effects like underlines, strikethroughs and font colors. Just click on their down arrows to view their options.
- Also in this area, you can add relief effects, outlines and shadows as well for the font.
- Next on to the Indents & Spacing options.
- This tab lets you adjust the indentations for the text in the style. This includes the first line indent as well as the indent before and after text.
- Below, you can also adjust the spacing above and below paragraphs, as well as the space in between lines.
- Next, we'll look at the text options.
- This tab lets you adjust the behavior of text within the graphic or object in the style. You can click on these checkboxes for the various options available.
- You can also adjust the text's space to the borders for each side here, and then beside it you can set where the text anchor is in the graphic.
- You can click on this checkbox here if you want to use the full width of a side as an anchor or not.
- Next, we shall look at the text animation options.
- This tab lets you add and edit the properties of text animations that can be applied to the text of the graphic style.
- Now we go to the "Dimensioning" options.
- This tab lets you adjust the dimensions that govern the elements within the graphic. Here you can adjust the line distance, guides, decimal places and the appearance of the measure below the object.
- Also, on this side, you can adjust the various properties for the legend of a graphic. This includes the text postion, vertical and horizontal adjustments and other settings.
- Now, we go to the connector settings.
- This tab adjusts the settings for the connectors that bridge graphics.
- Here you can adjust the setting for the type of connector, its "skew" options as well as the distances for its line spacing.
- Next are the alignment options.
- This tab determines the alignment options for the text inside the graphic. Just click on the option you want here.
- Finally, the last option we will look at are the tab stop options.
- In here you can add and delete tab stops, set their postions, their type and the fill character that accompanies them.
