  1. To directly open a microsoft powerpoint file with impress, first navigate to the file's location using the explorer.
  2. Then, once you've found the powerpoint file, right click over it to bring up a menu.
  3. When the menu opens, move your mouse over the option "Open With..."
  4. A side menu should open. Look for the OpenOffice Impress option. In this example the option is named "simpress." Just click on it once.
  5. OpenOffice Impress should open along with the Powerpoint presentation. Congratulations!
