How-To: Add shadows to slide text using the toolbar - OpenOffice.org Impress
  1. To format slide text so that it has a shadow, first you must select it. Do this by double clicking on the text block where the text you want to format is.
  2. Afterwards, click and hold the left mouse button on one side of the text.
  3. Next, while still holding the button, move your mouse across the text you want to format.
  4. Once the text is highlighted, release the mouse button.
  5. Now, move your mouse to the toolbar and look for the "Shadow" button. It should have an "A" icon with a shadow. Just click on this once.
  6. Great! As you can see, shadows have appeared with the text we selected. Congratulations!
