Operand
An Operand is basically one of the elements or inputs needed by an operator.
For example, in the mathematical expression
"1 + 2"
the numbers "1" and "2" are the operands for the operator represented by the plus
sign (+). Without the operands the operator itself is just a symbol of its action or operation, which is
an incomplete expression.
You can write operands, operators and whole mathematical expresions using OpenOffice.org Math.
Working with Operands
The following screencasts demonstrate how to work with operands:
- Create a formula using the selection window
- Create a formula using the context menu
- Create a formula using the math markup language
- Enter the expression "a minus b"
- Enter the expression "a plus b"
- Enter the boolean expression "not a"
- Enter the expression "minus a"
- Enter the expression "minus plus a"
- Enter the expression "plus a"
- Enter the expression "plus minus a"
- Use star symbol or asterisk for multiplication expressions
- Enter a vector cross product
- Enter a vector scalar dot product
