LaTeX
"LaTex" is a document markup language as well as a
document preparation system that provides a versatile way typesetting used
by the "TeX" typesetting system. It is basically a code like
html
that determines what a document
should look like. The difference is, in LaTeX the typesetting system itself
can decide how it can be presented after just a few inputs by the user.
"LaTeX" is primarilly used by professionals like scientists, mathematicians and scholars as its very programmable features help a lot in automating a lot of dreary formatting tasks like layouting, referencing, creating tables etc.
LaTeX can also be used in conjunction with BibTeX
when dealing with references and bibliographies.
OpenOffice.org Writer … can export text documents into LaTeX files. These have the file name extension ".tex"
