Kerning

Kerning refers to the adjustment of the space between letters. Usually this relates to the spaces between “paired” letters, where the space is automatically increased or decreased between them to make the text look better.

Different fonts may have different spacing settings for paired letters and some might not even support kerning. Kerning tables which are a component of the fonts itself show information regarding the spacing for paired letters.

OpenOffice.org supports the kerning of characters and has options to enable/disable them , or even specify the horizontal spacing of characters.
