JPG

A file with the filename extension ".jpg" is called a "jpeg" file. These kinds of files are image files, as they contain an image in digital form within the file. "JPEG" stands for "Joint Photographic Experts Group."

This file format is widely used today in images found on websites. This is because the compression of data or information about the image is very good which leads to smaller file sizes. This is good for websites as having lower file sizes mean faster loading times.

OpenOffice.org can open and edit "jpeg" images.
