Glyph

A glyph refers to the actual and precise outline or shape of a character or symbol. Glyphs can represent a variety of meanings depending on the symbol or character they represent.

Remember however that characters or symbols that are similar can be considered as a different glyph. For example the glyph "A" (italics) is different from the glyph "A" (regular). Although they are the same character, they are still different glyphs because once is italic and one is regular. Since their precise shape or outline differs, this means they are different glyphs. The same is true for most sets of fonts. They all basically have the same set of characters but they appear as different glyphs.
