Brackets
Brackets are punctuation marks used to group or set apart certain portions of text or characters within a larger set of text. In mathematics, brackets are used to group numbers and other expressions to signify or organize a mathematical operation. Also in computer science, brackets are used as part of the syntax in computer programming to perform various commands or operations correctly.
There are four major types of brackets. They are as follows:
- Round brackets or parentheses ( )
- Square brackets or box brackets [ ]
- Curly brackets or braces { }
- Angled brackets or chevrons < >
Brackets are easily inserted using their appropriate keys on the keyboard. However, in OpenOffice.org
Math
some special forms of brackets such as
scalable brackets

a special markup language
code so that it
displays correctly in a formula.
