BibTeX

The "BibTeX" file format is used by a software tool of the same name to describe and format lists of references. It is used to conveniently cite sources in a consistent manner to be more accurate. To do this, it separates the bibliographical information with the presentation of the information itself.

Usually BibText is used in conjunction with which is a document preparation system.

OpenOffice.org can export text documents as a BibTeX file. These have the file name extension ".bib"
