How-To: Insert a line chart - OpenOffice.org Calc
- To insert a line chart, first you must select the cells with the data for it.
- Select the cells by first clicking and holding the left mouse button on one end of the cells.
- Next, while holding the button move your mouse through the other cells you need selected.
- Just release the mouse button once you have selected all that you need.
- Afterwards, click here on "Insert."
- Then, on the menu that opens click here on "Chart..."
- The AutoFormat Chart window should open.
- Notice that the cell range you have selected has appeared here. You can still edit this if you think you've made a mistake in selecting. Otherwise leave it be.
- Once you are satisfied click on "Next" to continue.
- Now, here you can choose the type of chart you want to create.
- Click here on the lines option to create a line chart.
- Notice that a preview of the chart appears here.
- Next, choose how the data series was arranged in the worksheet. This is important since the chart will appear wrong if this is not set correctly.
- Since the data is arranged in a row, we are clicking on the "Rows" option.
- Note that the preview has changed to match your choice.
- Just, click "Next" to continue.
- Next, you are asked to choose a variant for the chart you are making.
- For line charts, you can choose from Normal, Stacked, Percent and Symbol variants.
- For this example we are choosing the "Symbols" variant. Just click once on the choice.
- Then, click next to continue.
- Now, here you can choose what else to display along with the chart itself. Just click on the checkboxes for the option you want.
- Usually you would want a chart title. Just click on this field and type in the title for your chart here.
- Afterwards, just click on "Create."
- Great! We have created a line chart.
